About
The Chapel of St James stands on Veliki Plazur on Medvednica, beside the Sljeme road descending from the Grafičar mountain hut towards Zagreb. The present Neo-Gothic masonry chapel was built in 1847 on the site of an older wooden chapel lost to fire. Its predecessor is associated with miners from the nearby Zrinski Mine, who invoked St Barbara, patron saint of miners. The chapel underwent a thorough restoration in 1935, and its plain interior includes motifs inspired by early Croatian art. Its roadside setting makes it an easy stop for hikers, cyclists and Sljeme day-trippers.
