Čuntić grad
About
Čuntić Castle, or Čuntić Tower, is a Renaissance defensive tower in Hrvatski Čuntić near Petrinja. It was commissioned by Zagreb Cathedral Chapter in 1551 as part of the anti-Ottoman defence system of the Una, Sava and Kupa region. Built on the slopes of Hrastovica Hill above the Petrinjčica valley, it watched over a medieval route running from the Una area towards Hrastovica and the Kupa. Its circular plan reflects the changing demands of early modern warfare. After losing its strategic role, the tower gradually deteriorated, yet its stone remains still mark an important element of Petrinja’s former defensive network. It is best suited to an exterior visit combined with nearby heritage sites.
