About this place

Bizovac is a Slavonian village whose modern identity was transformed by the discovery of hot, saline, mineral-rich water during oil drilling in 1967. The thermal source was found at a depth of 1,830 metres, and the first pool with basic accommodation and dining facilities followed in 1974. Today, Bizovačke Toplice includes Aquapolis, with indoor and outdoor pools, a large wave pool, saunas and rehabilitation services on Sunčana Street. Yet Bizovac offers more than bathing. Normann Manor houses the “Bizovačko blago” ethnographic exhibition, opened in 2023 with original men’s and women’s folk costumes and the Antun Ullrich gallery space. At the edge of the village, Bajer is an artificial lake created through clay extraction for the former brickworks, now bordered by grass, poplars and willows. The railway station connects Bizovac with Osijek and the Našice direction, though 2026 engineering works periodically require replacement buses. A day here can therefore combine geothermal bathing, distinctive textile heritage and a quiet lakeside pause without leaving the village.

Bizovac combines a lowland Slavonian village with a thermal resort created after drilling in 1967 revealed hot mineral water at a depth of 1,830 metres. The first developed pool opened in 1974, Hotel Termia followed in 1990, and Aquapolis was completed in 1997. A second strand of local identity comes from the distinctive Bizovac folk costume and Normann Manor, where the “Bizovačko blago” exhibition opened in 2023. At the village’s western edge, Bajer is a lake formed through clay extraction for the brickworks. Thermal bathing, textile heritage and an industrially created lake give Bizovac three markedly different attractions.

Things to see

Bizovačke Toplice developed around a source discovered in 1967 at a depth of 1,830 metres; Aquapolis now offers indoor and outdoor pools as well as a large wave pool. Normann Manor is among the area’s most important architectural monuments and houses the “Bizovačko blago” exhibition. Opened on 22 December 2023, the display presents original Bizovac folk costumes, while the manor also contains the Antun Ullrich gallery. Bajer at the former brickworks is a very different landmark: the lake was created by extracting soil and clay for brick production, and poplars and willows now shade its banks.

Things to do

Begin at Aquapolis, choosing between indoor and outdoor pools, water attractions and the large wave pool. After bathing, continue to Normann Manor and, with prior notice, see the “Bizovačko blago” exhibition, where figures wear original men’s and women’s Bizovac costumes. Reserve the afternoon for Bajer at the former brickworks, an artificial lake edged by grass, poplars and willows and managed by the Bandar angling association. This sequence connects three features found specifically in Bizovac: geothermal water, elaborate textile heritage and a lake created by clay extraction.

Food and drink

Dining at Bizovačke Toplice makes it possible to have a meal without leaving the thermal complex on Sunčana Street. Aqua Bar sits beside the indoor pools, next to the children’s play corner and shallow pool, which makes it particularly convenient during a family swim. Its menu ranges from pizza to locally branded choices such as the Bizovac burger, served in a beetroot-coloured bun with bacon, cheese and roasted potatoes. The resort also includes a 500-seat boarding-house restaurant and music hall connected with the hotel and rehabilitation facilities. A post-pool meal therefore does not require a separate trip into central Bizovac.

Practical information

Practical information

Bizovačke Toplice is at 39 Sunčana Street, with pool and package information available on +385 31 685 110. Visits to the “Bizovačko blago” exhibition in Normann Manor require advance notice to Bizovac Municipality; the published viewing period is weekdays from 08:00 to 14:00. The Bizovačke Toplice rehabilitation institution, at the same address, provides separate information on +385 31 685 185. Before using Aquapolis, check notices about temporary pool maintenance, while rail passengers should consult HŽPP updates for engineering works and replacement transport.

Getting there and around

Bizovac has a station on the Varaždin–Dalj railway, between Samatovci and Cret, with connections towards Osijek and the Našice area. During October 2026, engineering works between Josipovac and Koška require replacement buses that stop on the eastern side of the Bizovac station building. Passengers should therefore check both the HŽPP timetable and current works page before travelling. Bizovačke Toplice is at 39 Sunčana Street, away from the station forecourt, so travellers carrying luggage should arrange local transport or ask their accommodation about a transfer.
