Majstorska Road runs from Sveti Rok to Obrovac via the Mali Alan pass, following a winding line across the steep slopes of southern Velebit. Construction began in 1825, and the 41-kilometre route was completed and ceremonially opened in 1832. Designed by Josip Kajetan Knežić, it was an important engineering achievement: hairpin bends, stone foundations, retaining walls and drainage made this difficult terrain passable. The road has been listed among Croatia’s cultural goods since 2007 and passes the dramatic limestone formations of Tulove grede. It suits visitors seeking a combination of historic road engineering and Velebit’s stark karst scenery.
