Prozor Fortress rises above Vrlika and dates from the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries. It was first recorded in 1406, and archaeological investigations show that it was repeatedly rebuilt over the centuries. Its irregular rectangular complex is organised around a fortified residential core, or donjon, once reached by a masonry ramp and a wooden drawbridge on the eastern side. The provveditore’s residence lay to the west, while a small round tower defended the east and a low rampart protected the southern cliff edge. The fortress was damaged in 1715; research and restoration, interrupted in 1991, resumed in 2006. Its hilltop setting overlooks Vrlika, the Vrličko Polje and Lake Peruća.
