Topana Fortress occupies an exceptionally defensive cliffside position above Blue Lake, about half a kilometre northwest of central Imotski. It is mentioned as early as the mid-10th century, while its present fortified form was decisively shaped by medieval and later alterations. Its name comes from the topana, a cannon-platform tower in the northeastern section, built around 1663. The site served as a military and administrative centre under Ottoman rule and was repaired after the Venetian capture of 1717. The fortress also contains the Church of Our Lady of the Angels; today its walls are especially valued for views over the lake and town.
