St Mark’s Cathedral stands on its namesake square within Korčula’s walled old town and is the city’s leading sacred monument. Built over the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries, it combines Gothic and Renaissance features in both its façade and interior. Bonino da Milano made the main portal, while the Korčulan stonecutter Marko Andrijić created the upper part of the bell tower and the richly carved canopy above the high altar. Inside are altarpieces by Jacopo Tintoretto and other Italian painters, alongside works by Croatian sculptors. It is an especially rewarding stop for visitors interested in stone carving and ecclesiastical art.
