The Staro selo Kumrovec Museum occupies the old core of Kumrovec and is Croatia’s largest heritage area arranged around traditional life. Some forty restored vernacular buildings stand in their original setting along village lanes, illustrating homes, farming and crafts in Hrvatsko zagorje at the turn of the 20th century. Josip Broz’s birthplace stands at the entrance and contains historical and ethnological displays. Protection of the ensemble grew from Marijana Gušić’s 1947 ethnographic research, while later restoration campaigns shaped the museum visitors see today. It is especially rewarding for travellers interested in vernacular architecture, rural daily life and traditional skills.
