The Međimurje County Museum was founded on 19 February 1954 as the Čakovec Town Museum and is housed in the Old Town palace. A regional museum, it holds about 25,000 objects in 51 collections spanning history, archaeology, ethnography, natural history and art. Its currently open permanent displays are “The Zrinski Family and Čakovec Old Town”, the Art Gallery and the Međimurje Treasury. It offers the clearest introduction to the region’s heritage, especially the Zrinski family’s role and Čakovec’s development. Some departments may remain closed during structural repairs, so check the museum’s current visitor information before setting out.
