The Church of St Francis Xavier occupies a green site on the northern edge of central Zagreb, within the historic Ksaver pilgrimage complex. Jesuits built the present church in the eighteenth century and it was consecrated in 1752; a Calvary, broad approach and Stations of the Cross developed around the sanctuary. Third Order Franciscans took over the church in the twentieth century and established a monastery beside it. The 2020 earthquake caused serious damage, followed by restoration and reopening in 2022. Visitors come for the combination of Baroque sacred architecture, pilgrimage history and a quiet foothill setting, especially when the church is included in a walk through the Ksaver neighbourhood.
