Kopački Rit Nature Park occupies an inland delta where the Drava flows into the Danube. Changing water levels continually reshape its lakes, channels, ponds, ridges, floodplain forests, reed beds and wet meadows, so the scenery is never quite fixed. The area has held legal protection since 1967, and its Special Zoological Reserve is the park’s most valuable zone. The wetland provides habitat for waterbirds, red deer and white-tailed eagles—the park’s emblem—while black storks and eastern imperial eagles also occur regularly. The official visitor centre is at Mali Sakadaš near Kopačevo, a practical starting point for discovering this dynamic marshland.
