About
Hušnjakovo Hill near Krapina is the palaeontological site where Dragutin Gorjanović-Kramberger began investigating an ancient human habitat in 1899. Protected as Croatia’s first palaeontological natural monument, its exceptional finds place it among the world’s important palaeoanthropological sites. Landscaped footpaths connect the site with the Krapina Neanderthal Museum, opened in 2010. The museum explains evolution and the Krapina discoveries through 18 thematic sections, including a large diorama of Neanderthals gathered around a hearth. Hušnjakovo is especially rewarding for families and anyone curious about human prehistory.
