Saint George church in Sveti Đurađ

St George’s Church in Sveti Đurađ is a protected medieval church distinguished by its Gothic sanctuary, south portal and 19th-century bell tower.

About

St George’s Church in Sveti Đurađ is listed as protected immovable cultural property under register number Z-1672. The present building stands on the site of an ancient structure beside the former Roman road linking Mursa with Petovio; Roman bricks are built into part of the nave’s north wall. The northern section of the nave was constructed in two phases, while the buttressed polygonal sanctuary dates to the 15th century and the mature Gothic period. A late-Gothic portal survives on the south wall. The bell tower was added west of the nave in the 19th century, and its ecclesiastical detailing makes it a distinctive feature of the Valpovo area’s church heritage.
