Verbovec várkastélya
About
Vrbovec Castle on today’s Trg Petra Zrinskog developed from the late Middle Ages to the 18th century, with its most conspicuous surviving feature being the two-storey round Zrinski Tower. After 1528, the fortification formed part of the defence against the Ottoman threat, although the tower was also a statement of power rather than a purely military structure. The original, largely wooden castle burned down in 1755 and was subsequently rebuilt by the Patačić family. The tower and the former manor building survive within a protected cultural property and archaeological site in the town centre. It is easily reached on foot through Vrbovec’s main park.
