Church of St. Nicholas

church in Pačetin, Croatia

About

The Serbian Orthodox parish church of the Translation of St Nicholas’s Relics in Pačetin was built from 1752 and consecrated on 27 August 1755. This single-nave church forms part of the heritage of a village near Vukovar. Its principal artistic feature is the iconostasis made in 1909–10: Vinko Rauscher designed its architectural frame and Ivan Tišov painted the icons. Art-historical research identifies a Neo-Byzantine character in the frame, alongside classicist elements, while Tišov’s paintings combine academic technique with occasional Art Nouveau details. The church underwent several restorations during the 20th century. Visitors should arrange a visit with the local Orthodox community, particularly if they wish to see the interior.
