About
The Parish Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary stands in Zlatar, where the parish seat was moved from Martinšćina in 1669. The present church developed from an older chapel that was lengthened, widened and raised to create a Baroque, cross-shaped plan. It was consecrated in 1762 by Stjepan Pucz, auxiliary bishop of Zagreb. The church is an important part of Zlatar’s historic centre and has served as the parish community’s gathering place for centuries. When visiting, notice the cruciform layout and the balanced Baroque interior, both of which reflect the growth of the parish and town during the 18th century.
