Bisag Castle
About
Near the village of Bisag, Bisag Castle developed from a lowland fortress that was important along the Lonja River from the late 14th century and particularly in the 15th century. It had a rectangular ground plan, cylindrical corner towers and surrounding moats, before later additions gradually turned it into a manor castle. An entrance tower and the Chapel of St Florian were added, with landscaped grounds around the complex. Over the centuries it was held by the Bisaški, Kaštelanović, Zrinski, Gereczy, Rattkay, Patačić and Drašković families. Partly demolished after 1918, it was damaged by fire during the Second World War. Today, the western towers and chapel survive as ruins, including traces of wall paintings.
