Church of the Transfer of the relics of the Holy Father Nicholas, Bijelo Brdo

church in Osijek-Baranja County, Croatia

About

The Church of the Translation of the Relics of St Nicholas stands in the centre of Bijelo Brdo and forms part of eastern Croatia’s Orthodox sacred heritage. Its foundation stone was blessed on 27 July 1764, the church was roofed three years later, and its bell tower was added in 1809. Built of brick, it is a single-nave structure with a rectangular plan, a semicircular sanctuary apse, and a tall Late Baroque tower. Jovan Isailović the Elder painted the icons of the original iconostasis in 1783, while Jovan Isailović the Younger completed the wall paintings between 1850 and 1854. Damaged and restored during 20th-century wars, the church stands on Školski trg in the village centre.
