Our Lady of the Snow Church

Our Lady of the Snow Church stands in the southern part of Belec and has served as the parish church since 1786. A votive chapel was founded at Kostanjevec in 1674, while the building acquired its present form during major rebuilding between 1739 and 1742. That campaign completed the west-front tower, side chapels and sacristy, and gave the nave its cross barrel vault. Its irregular polygonal apse may preserve traces of an earlier Gothic structure. Associated with Marian pilgrimage and an apparition tradition, the church is especially rewarding for its richly layered construction history and its expressive Baroque interior.
