St. Petka's Church

St Petka’s Orthodox Church, dedicated to Venerable Mother Paraskeva, stands in Banovci in the Srijem region. The church is Baroque in style, and its 2019 restoration retained that character in the renewed interior decoration. The comprehensive work addressed damp, restored frescoes and icon painting, and repaired the church before its consecration on 22 September 2019 by Vasilije, Bishop of Srem. Its frescoes follow Orthodox spatial conventions but use a more realistic Baroque pictorial language, giving the interior a distinctive appearance. The church remains the main gathering place for the local Orthodox community and is of interest to visitors exploring the sacred heritage of eastern Slavonia and Srijem.
