The Palace by the Golden Gate stands beside one of the principal entrances to Diocletian's Palace. The protected property spans several building plots, reflecting the complicated evolution of historic houses in this part of Split. Scholarly surveys associate some carved elements of palaces in this area with the circle of Giorgio da Sebenico, although his precise role is not fully established. For visitors, the setting is the key attraction: only steps from the ancient Golden Gate, later centuries can be seen building directly onto the Roman framework. The palace is best appreciated from the exterior while exploring the northern side of the old town.
