Grisogono Palace occupies a corner beside the Peristyle and the line of the ancient decumanus, in the heart of Diocletian's Palace. The present building forms part of a larger medieval residence of the noble Grisogono family: its Romanesque fabric was later remodelled, particularly during the Gothic period. Two painted ceilings and sixteen profiled stone corbels decorated with figural and vegetal motifs are among its most notable protected features. For anyone walking through the old town, the palace clearly demonstrates how private noble architecture was inserted into the Roman urban framework. It fits naturally into a route linking the Peristyle, Vestibule and Golden Gate.
