The Great Papalić Palace in Papalićeva Street is one of Split's finest late-medieval residential complexes. Built and extended during the 15th and 16th centuries, it includes a courtyard, loggia, well and a ceremonial hall on the upper floor. Dmine Papalić kept ancient inscriptions collected in Salona with Marko Marulić here, giving the palace an early connection with the study and preservation of local heritage. It now houses the Split City Museum. A visit therefore combines the architecture of a noble residence with museum collections, making the building especially useful for understanding both elite life in historic Split and the city's long fascination with its ancient past.
