The Benedictine convent of St Mary, known in historical sources as St Mary de Taurello, survives through remnants of its former complex within Split's historic urban fabric. Heritage protection focuses on those surviving parts, so the site is experienced differently from an intact church or monastery: visitors need to read fragments and their relationship with neighbouring buildings. It is therefore best suited to travellers interested in the medieval growth of Split and in religious institutions that have partly disappeared from the cityscape. Its central position makes it easy to include on a walking route without requiring a separate excursion or a long visit.
