Designed by architect Rikard Marasović in the mid-1960s, the Children’s Resort-Sanatorium in Krvavica was intended to treat respiratory illnesses among children of military-insured families. Its defining feature is a circular, seemingly floating structure set on an L-shaped block among pines by the sea. Open circulation routes, vegetation and the curved concrete form create its distinctive, almost futuristic character. After several changes of use, the complex was abandoned and gradually deteriorated, yet it remains an important example of post-war modernism and a focus of architectural-heritage research. It is best appreciated from the outside, while respecting all safety restrictions at the site.
