Trsteno Arboretum grew from the country estate and gardens of the Dubrovnik noble Gučetić-Gozze family and was established as an arboretum in 1948. Across 25.61 hectares, it combines a Renaissance garden and summer residence, an early-20th-century romantic garden, a historic olive grove, and natural coastal vegetation. Its most recognisable sights include the aqueduct, Neptune fountain, and collections of palms, bamboo, citrus trees, and other Mediterranean and exotic plants. HAZU has managed the site since 1951, using it for scientific, museum, and educational purposes. Set in Trsteno northwest of Dubrovnik, it is especially rewarding for visitors drawn to garden design, botany, and Dubrovnik’s estate culture.
