Sutvrač is a ruined Spanish fortress dating from 1563, positioned on the highest ridge of Lopud. It was built when Lopud was an important maritime and trading centre of the Republic of Dubrovnik and therefore held strategic value. The fort’s commanding position looks across the island and surrounding sea, and that broad panorama is its principal attraction today. It is reached on foot by an uphill route from Lopud village; sturdy footwear and care on the rocky ground are advisable. The surviving remains are not a fitted-out museum interior, but a historic landmark for independent exploration and a pause during the climb.
