Siscia was a Roman town whose archaeological layers largely lie beneath the historic core of present-day Sisak. At Siscia in situ, conserved and interpreted sections of a Roman defensive wall and tower can be seen from a walkway and viewing platform. Elsewhere in the town, the surviving traces of Roman Siscia include parts of fortifications, baths, a granary, sanctuaries, villas with frescoes and mosaics, a river landing, and water-supply and drainage systems. Sisak City Museum is responsible for maintaining the archaeological remains. The site is especially rewarding for visitors interested in connecting the modern townscape with its ancient urban history.
