Sisak Cathedral, dedicated to the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, stands on Ban Jelačić Square in the town centre. A church has stood on this site since early Christian times, and the parish heads the oldest surviving 1334 list of parishes in the Diocese of Zagreb. The present building is the result of successive additions: its sanctuary dates from the late 16th century, the nave was enlarged in the early 18th century, and the church was consecrated in 1765. Inside are marble statues of St Andrew and St Francis de Sales by Francesco Robba. It became a cathedral in 2009.
