Crkva sv. Ivana Krstitelja u Sv. Ivanu Zelini
About
The Church of St John the Baptist stands in the very centre of Sveti Ivan Zelina, where its massive bell tower still defines the townscape. The church is mentioned as early as around 1200, when Zelina belonged to the bishops of Zagreb. Repeated rebuilding has left few visible medieval features, and its present appearance took shape around 1720. Notable interior elements include a Baroque pulpit from 1726 by the Zagreb sculptor Kautz and a font made around 1770. The high altar, created by Alojz Zoratti of Maribor, depicts Christ’s baptism in the Jordan and is flanked by statues of Saints Peter and Paul.
