Museum of Peasant Revolts

About

The Museum of Peasant Revolts is housed in Oršić Castle in Gornja Stubica. Its permanent exhibition, opened in 2002, explores the history, culture and everyday life of feudal Zagorje from the late Middle Ages to the abolition of feudal relations in 1848. The 1573 Peasant Revolt is its central theme. In the castle park stands Antun Augustinčić’s monumental memorial to the revolt and Matija Gubec, erected in 1973 for the revolt’s 400th anniversary. The museum also stages temporary exhibitions, workshops and events, while a one-kilometre walk leads to Gubec’s Lime Tree. It is an excellent starting point for exploring the Stubica area.
