The parish church of St Lawrence stands in central Petrinja on Šetalište J. J. Strossmayera. A new masonry church was built from 1780 on the site of an earlier wooden church and consecrated on 4 June 1781; its original furnishings, including three altars, were made in Graz. During the Croatian War of Independence it was mined and completely demolished. A church of identical form was subsequently built on the same site and consecrated on 10 August 2000. Its elongated nave leads to a raised sanctuary, flanked by the sacristy and Chapel of the Holy Cross. It is a meaningful stop for visitors interested in Petrinja’s rebuilt sacred heritage.
