Standing in the centre of Čazma, St Mary Magdalene Parish Church was built in the second quarter of the 13th century as the church of a Dominican monastery. Historical sources associate its construction with Bishop Stjepan II of Zagreb, while Slavonian Duke Coloman was buried here. Its surviving medieval fabric includes a nave, shorter aisles, transept, rectangular sanctuary and towers; the exterior is chiefly Romanesque, while the interior displays stronger Gothic features. The west rose window, more than six metres across, is its great visual highlight. Eighteenth-century Baroque alterations introduced vaulting, a sacristy, choir gallery and rich wooden furnishings, creating a building with several clearly legible historical layers.
